Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made significant progress on the Al Qudra Road development programme with the opening of a newly completed bridge aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity across key residential and development areas.
The Al Qudra Road corridor extends from its intersection with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, passing through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Emirates Road, and continuing along Al Qudra Road. The newly opened bridge enhances traffic flow on Al Qudra Road and the connecting road between Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City.
The bridge has increased road capacity by 191%, from 6,600 vehicles per hour to 19,200 vehicles per hour, while reducing waiting times at the junction by 55%, cutting delays from 113 seconds to 52 seconds.
RTA is set to open the northern (left-side) bridge next week at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street. The 700-metre-long structure will provide two lanes in each direction until works on the southern (right-side) bridge are completed. Once operational, it will serve traffic along Al Qudra Road towards Al Qudra City and in the direction of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the project supports smoother mobility for residents and visitors, keeps pace with Dubai’s rapid urban expansion, and addresses the emirate’s growing population and development needs.
The scope of the project includes upgrading several key intersections, constructing bridges with a combined length of 2,700 metres, and widening and improving existing roads over a total stretch of 11.6 kilometres. Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce journey times by 70%, cutting travel duration from 9.4 minutes to 2.8 minutes, while serving residential and development areas accommodating approximately 400,000 residents and visitors.
Al Tayer noted that Al Qudra Road is among the strategic projects aimed at strengthening Dubai’s east–west road corridors. The route serves several major developments, including Arabian Ranches 1 and 2, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Studio City, DAMAC Hills, Mudon, and The Sustainable City.
In addition to the newly completed bridge linking Al Qudra Road with Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City, the project includes upgrading the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street through the construction of a 700-metre bridge offering four lanes in each direction. Auxiliary lanes are also being developed along side ramps, with two lanes per ramp, to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow without impacting the main carriageway.
Further works include the construction of a 500-metre bridge to serve traffic from Al Qudra Road to Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Jebel Ali, and a 900-metre bridge facilitating movement towards the city centre and Dubai International Airport. In addition, RTA is developing 3 kilometres of service roads on both sides of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to improve connectivity with surrounding developments.
Once completed, the intersection upgrade will increase capacity from 7,800 vehicles per hour to 19,400 vehicles per hour and reduce waiting times by 85%, lowering delays from 393 seconds to 60 seconds.
The project also includes upgrading Al Qudra Road from its intersection with Emirates Road to the existing roundabout serving key residential communities such as Town Square Dubai, Mira Developments, and DAMAC Hills 2. Works involve widening the road by increasing the number of lanes in both directions along a 3.4-kilometre stretch within the developers’ zone.
Additionally, RTA is constructing a new 4.8-kilometre road in the southern section of the area, directly linking it to Emirates Road to improve access and exit movements to and from surrounding developments.
