Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a strategic partnership agreement with US-based The Boring Company to commence the implementation of a next-generation passenger transport tunnel project in Dubai, branded Dubai Loop.
The partnership aims to introduce advanced underground transport infrastructure designed to enhance urban mobility and significantly reduce surface congestion across the emirate. The Boring Company, a specialist in innovative tunneling systems and underground passenger transport solutions, will work closely with RTA to deliver cutting-edge tunnel technologies.
The Dubai Loop project is expected to support Dubai’s long-term vision for smart and sustainable transportation by enabling fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly passenger movement through underground corridors. The system will leverage modern tunneling techniques to accelerate construction timelines while minimizing disruption to existing infrastructure and urban activity.
RTA stated that the agreement aligns with Dubai’s strategic objectives to adopt future-ready mobility solutions and strengthen its position as a global leader in smart transportation and infrastructure innovation.
Commenting on the partnership, Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the agreement reflects the directives of Dubai’s leadership to strengthen strategic partnerships with leading global companies in innovation and advanced technologies. He added that the collaboration supports Dubai’s ambition to remain among the world’s leading cities in deploying future mobility solutions, enhancing quality of life, and facilitating seamless movement for residents and visitors in line with the emirate’s rapid urban and economic growth.
Steve Davis, President of The Boring Company, said the company is proud to partner with RTA, describing it as one of the world’s leading authorities in adopting innovative transport solutions. He noted that the collaboration aims to deliver advanced, safe, and highly efficient tunneling solutions that align with Dubai’s vision for sustainable and future mobility.
The partnership builds on earlier cooperation between the two entities. During last year’s World Government Summit (WGS), RTA and The Boring Company signed an agreement to study the feasibility of implementing the project in Dubai. As part of the study phase, RTA provided comprehensive geotechnical data, information on existing utilities and structures, environmental risk assessments, and the technical specifications and standards adopted for transport systems in the emirate.
Further details regarding project phases, capacity, and implementation timelines are expected to be announced as the project progresses.
